The London MET Branch (formerly the London North (Of The Thames) Branch) is a vibrant and active branch that has a geographical coverage across the Met Police districts North of the Thames in London. The committee of active volunteers deliver dozens of social, professional development and networking events each year. All events are open to all IPA members no matter which branch, region or country they are affiliated to. IPA members may also bring along friends and families to some events.
The variety of in person social events range from curry nights, comedy nights, day time tourist walking tours, museum visits, paint ball, pub quizzes and Christmas meals. Professional development opportunities are supported by online / in-person seminars in addition to sending 12 officers per year on organised 3 day exchanges to Germany and the Netherlands. A number of special events are also available which include photo opportunity trips to Downing Street, visits to military barracks or special places including the U.S. Embassy London, Palace of Westminster / Crime Museum at New Scotland Yard / Royal Chelsea Hospital / special Buckingham Palace Guard Change / The Royal Courts of Justice tours and Ceremony of the Keys events to name but a few highlights.
The branch prides itself on its international reputation and members assist in hosting visits from hundreds of international law enforcement officers and staff every year. Thirty-three countries have sent IPA travel requests since June 2023 ranging from European countries such as Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Swedento more far flung places such as Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa. From the United States of America we have hosted visitors from many States such as Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
We encourage every member to get involved in branch activities, there is something for everyone. We welcome new ideas and invite all branch members to be active and contribute by attending events and helping out.
