International Learning & Development Exchange Programme (ILDEP), Section UK

ILDEP has been developed to professionalise the exchange process, ensuring members get the best possible learning experience they can. A National Co-ordinator facilitates placements and exchanges with police organisations in all IPA Sections (countries), leading to professional development at individual and organisational level.

This programme is only open to IPA members and all members must be aware that there is no guarantee the placement will take place at the exact place they request. Please note, members placing a priority on a social / sightseeing element to their trip should not apply through ILDEP.  The International Travel Form Scheme should be used instead.

An application form has been designed to gain as much information as possible, whilst encouraging the member to think about where exactly they want to go and why. This programme is open to individuals and groups. Please be aware that any visa requirements necessary for the proposed exchange are arranged by the applying member; IPA Section-UK cannot assist in any visa application process.

Applicants should apply at least three months in advance of their proposed dates, to allow sufficient time to administer the request.

Non-section UK members should understand that policing arrangements in the United Kingdom are such that the numerous Police Forces of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are under the independent control of their respective Chief Constables. There is no mechanism in place within UK policing for the IPA to influence matters of professional exchanges. It is for each Chief Constable to decide whether, or not, to accept foreign police officers on a temporary attachment basis.

Any member seeking a placement should send their inquiry to: Chris Duncombe, ILDEP National Co-ordinator on ILDEP@ipa-uk.org
