Important Information for IPA Members visiting the UK
To get the best from a trip to the UK, IPA members should be aware of the following:
All travel requests / inquiries must be sent to mail@ipa-uk.org who will forward the inquiry to the relevant Reception Officer in the UK.
Proof of IPA membership must be provided (scanned copy of membership card / email from Section).
- The International Travel Form must be used and submitted within timelines. Please see additional information below regarding timelines, which are different to those on the Travel Form and vary depending on members’ availability; assistance required, demand etc. Download a Travel Form by clicking here.
- Visitors should consult tourist information for general advice:
Visitors are encouraged to find and book their own accommodation. Visitors to London can request advice from the London Reception Officer in regard to suitable areas and transport links, a small number of rooms with limited availability may be available at the Civil Service Club in central London upon application to the London Reception Officer directly. Advice can be requested from Region and Branch secretaries around the UK in regard to suitable areas and hosting opportunities locally. Check out the ‘Recommended or IPA members’ accommodation’ shown at Travel-and-accommodation
- Section UK will not deal with inquiries relating to student accommodation and employment opportunities. IPA Section UK recommends that people from outside London will be best able to progress their student accommodation enquiries via the Internet, with a general search for student accommodation. Links are available on the Internet. The IPA has no business interest in any of these and does not recommend any particular service provider. IPA Section UK does not have any Members' Benefit Deals to offer in this business area.
- It may be possible to arrange visits to operational police stations. Ride-alongs may also be possible in some forces. Owing to security and operational demands, members arriving unannounced at operational stations are turned away on the instruction of chief officers. IPA has no control over this and cannot and will not assist members affected
- Please do not ask for tickets for football matches, shows, tourist attractions. These cannot be obtained on members' behalf.
Ceremony of the Key
Members of the IPA have for many years been able to enjoy this opportunity which is not open to members of the public and includes access to the Beefeaters bar! Individuals or groups who wish to organise a visit must email toweripa@gmail.com
This will allow the diary to be checked for availability and dates offered. Note that this opportunity is only available on Tuesdays. It is recommended that you book as early as possible, only a pre-booking will ensure access to the event. It is not possible to turn up on the day and gain entry. It is also important to note that there is a strict dress code for access and if this is not met access will be denied. This would be embarrassing both for ourselves and the organisers. Gentleman wear a suit or collar and tie, ladies a smart outfit.
