In July, Secretary General Steve Bretherton attended the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Memorial Day.

Now in its 15th year, COPS is a national charity that supports the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty.  Each year COPS organises a Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Steve laid a wreath at the IPA tree on ‘The Beat’ – the avenue of trees planted by police services and organisations from across the UK.

Steve said, ‘It was an honour to represent the IPA at the Memorial Service.   Despite the truly awful weather and the sombre nature of the event, the service was really moving; especially listening to those who spoke from the heart about how the charity had supported them through the worst of times.  It was tremendously uplifting to see officers and staff completing the Police Unity Tour – cycling to the service from all parts of the UK raising money for the charity in the process.
