The Scarborough branch of the International Police Association are pleased to announce the return of ‘hands-on’ events after the pandemic postponements of the past eighteen months laid their calendar of regular activities to one side.
The opening event is a book launch by visting author and fellow police association member, Ann Cumberland and her husband Andy, who are caravanning over from Northern Ireland to stay covid-safely near Ravenscar for the launch.
The book ‘Which Way to The Gambia? is an account of the International Police Association Valles Occidental Barcelona branch charitable aid trip taking cycles to a school in The Gambia which author Ann joined in 2019 just before the pandemic struck.
‘Which Way to The Gambia’ is being published by local publishers Bryn Stowe Publications of Cloughton and printed by Scarborough’s Prontaprint as a fund-raising initiative to buy further bikes for The Gambian school children.
Branch Secretary Chris Charlton from Seamer says ‘It is wonderful news that we feel we can at last launch a local Scarborough charitable event with people actually present and able to enjoy friendship and good will. The event which is being attended by just twenty-four people to stay well within the regulations, is being zoomed around the world and will give an excellent mention of the attractions of Scarborough and North Yorkshire in the author interview of Ann by David Lewis, director of Bryn Stowe Publications’.
David says ‘We are very proud to be publishing and supporting this work as the third in our Bryn Stowe Travel series and is an excellent glimpse into some of the children’s hardships of life in The Gambia. This is Ann Cumberland’s first book, but we are sure many more will follow. She has a humorous and pithy take on life, not just on the charitable trip she joined to The Gambia but on life in Northern Ireland and beyond.’
The event is being held in the theatre at Cober Hill Hotel and Conference Centre on Friday 25th June between 4 pm and 6 pm and, due to Covid restrictions, attendance has to be by invitation only.
